BEACHED BOAT, GIG HARBOR
Most people would consider watercolorist Mary Elizabeth Smith a maritime artist since she mostly paints images that are close to or floating on the water. She just enjoys recreating the play of light that she sees and the contrasting shadows that intrigue her. If the right elements are there, she is able to capture them to produce luminous paintings which are full of detail and depth. Mary strives to make each painting her "best work ever," knowing that she'll only get better with each new image, secretly hoping she never completes her masterpiece. For most artists, once that is done, there is no reason to continue painting.
Currently, Mary is earning her degree in Graphic Technologies and hopes to work for a company (as a Graphic Designer) that can utilize her creative talents to the fullest. Commissions are gladly accepted should a client have a particular setting they want depicted in watercolor, colored pencil, or pen & ink. For example, she is working on a watercolor painting of a Bahama sailboat race for a client in Texas. She has lived in the Gig Harbor area for most of her life, having been born in Santa Cruz, CA, and moving here in 1964. She enjoys spending time outdoors with her two children and looks forward to each new summer in the Northwest! Her work is represented locally by Harbor Gallery in the Anchorage Building, 3177 Harborview Drive, as well as galleries in Poulsbo, Port Orchard, Seattle and Lincoln City, Oregon. For more information, please call (253) 851-7165 and visit her website at www.harborart.com to view more of her paintings.
